Get Ready for #LGBTQFamiliesDay on June 1 with Shareables and More

This coming Monday, June 1, 2020, is not only the start of Pride Month, but also the 15th Annual #LGBTQFamiliesDay! Everyone is invited to participate (allies, too)! There are more ways than ever to celebrate the day, including easy shareable images, coloring sheets, and an online concert for the whole family! Read on to learn more.

#LGBTQFamiliesDay 2020

What’s This All About?

Since 2006 (originally as Blogging for LGBTQ Families Day), this day has brought together LGBTQ individuals, their family members, and allies to blog, tweet, post, and share on social media in celebration and support of LGBTQ families. In 2018, the name was changed to #LGBTQFamiliesDay in order to include all types of social media sharing and posting, not just blogging.

I created the event for the beginning of June, not only because it is the start of Pride Month, but also because it is halfway between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, in recognition that not all families fit into the traditional structure of one mother and one father. I’m delighted to once again be partnering with Family Equality Council on what has become an annual celebration.

Here are several ways you can join in the fun!

  • Post, tweet, or share on any social media channel in celebration and support of LGBTQ families on June 1, 2020, and include the hashtag #LGBTQFamiliesDay. Use the shareable images and coloring sheets below, any other family photo, or just some words of support.
  • Follow the hashtag throughout the day and share the stories, images, and thoughts from other participants.

Add a Facebook Frame

Change the frame around your Facebook profile image to celebrate the day! Go to this Facebook page and search for the frame “#LGBTQFamiliesDay” by Family Equality. Select it and click “Use as Profile Picture.”

Join Other LGBTQ Parents for a Virtual Meetup

Celebrate by convening with other LGBTQ+ parents across the country on June 1, 2020, at 4:30 p.m. ET, swapping tips and tricks for surviving this challenging time. Family Equality will facilitate a discussion and also listen for the needs of our community so they can build programs and push policy agendas that directly address the challenges you’re facing right now. You must RSVP here to receive login information.

Join award-winning children’s music duo Ants on a Log for a special live online concert just for #LGBTQFamiliesDay on June 1, 2020, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. ET.
