Watch: Stoneman Douglas GSA Honored: “Loud and Proud and Laser-Focused on Calling B.S.”

Emma Gonzalez, Equality FloridaThe Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School GSA, along with its president, Emma Gonzalez, were honored at Equality Florida’s 2018 Miami Gala last Saturday for their work against gun violence in the wake of the tragic shooting at the school last month. Listen to Gonzalez’s remarks.

Gonzalez kicked off the program, holding a moment of silence for the 17 lives taken in the Parkland shooting and for the victims of the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting. She then offered her remarks until about 3:45 on the video.

Skip ahead then, to 24:20 (though if you live in Florida or like award banquets, you may want to watch all the way through), where Equality Florida’s Safe Schools Director De Palazzo introduces the entire GSA and quotes Gonzalez, who described them as being “lout and proud and laser-focused on calling B.S.” GSA Sponsors Diane Wolk-Rogers and Mario Caicedo accepted Equality Florida’s Voice for Equality Award. on behalf of the students.

A well deserved award for young people who give me hope, even as I wish their work were not necessary.
