Needed ASAP: Older Children of LGBTQ Parents for SCOTUS Amicus Brief

U. S. Supreme Court

Time-sensitive action alert: Older children of LGBTQ parents are needed to lend their voices to an amicus brief for the U. S. Supreme Court in a case seeking to overturn an Arkansas decision that denied same-sex parents the right to be on their children’s birth certificates.

The National Center for Lesbian Rights has filed a cert petition with the U.S. Supreme Court in the case (about which more here), and Family Equality Council is assisting by preparing a “Voices of Children” amicus brief, as they did for the winning marriage equality case in 2015.

They are actively and immediately looking for “stories of children (generally older, even adult) who either have, or have had in the past, an incorrect birth certificate—one which failed to list both same-sex parents.” If you have or are such a child (in any state, not just Arkansas), please contact Denise Brogan-Kator, Director of State Policy, at: DeniseBK@FamilyEquality.org. If you’re not, please help spread the word—they need these stories asap!
