Post of the Week: “The Tiger and the Penguin”

Post of the WeekMy Post of the Week pick this time is a poem from a child who has a thing or two to say about unusual friendships.

Mookie, her mama tells us, is “is a sweet, smart, happy, feisty, creative, wildly loved child who lives in San Francisco with her Mama (that’s me), her Mommy (my wife), and, as of this writing, one cat.” Mookie wrote a poem in her church’s after-Sunday-School time program, and her mama has shared it at her blog. “The Tiger and the Penguin” starts with a dilemma:

A tiger loved a penguin. The problem was,
the penguin was afraid of the
tiger because she thought that he would
eat her.

Go read the rest of the post to find out how this cross-species relationship ends. It’s a lesson for all of us about sharing our strengths and not making assumptions.
