Happy 10th Birthday, Mombian!

BalloonsThe Mombian blog is 10 years old! Let’s all eat cake!

Actually, the official birthday of the blog was yesterday, but it seemed bad form to take away from the much longer-standing celebration then of all the dads out there. Today is close enough.

I launched the blog “dedicated to providing relevant, useful, and just plain fun reading for lesbian moms.” I hope I’ve succeeded.

My son was only two when I started blogging, a way for me to keep up my professional skills in Internet marketing and business strategy while I stayed home with him. Now, he’s in middle school, almost as tall as I am (though that doesn’t take much), and nearly as adept as I am on the Internet (to my pride and occasional fear).

When the blog began, marriage equality was barely a year old in Massachusetts. Around the world, it existed in the Netherlands, Belgium, and part of Canada. Now, it has spread faster than most of us could have imagined, to over 20 countries, and we stand on the cusp of a decision that could spread it throughout the U.S. Beyond marriage, we have made tremendous strides in the recognition of LGBTQ families in other policies and practice as well, although we still have a ways to go. LGBTQ families are ever-more visible in our communities and in the media. I’m humbled to have been a chronicler of this progress, and perhaps to have helped in some small way.

Thanks to all of you — lesbian moms and otherwise — who have stopped by here to read, comment, and share your thoughts. We are diverse in our families and our approaches to parenting, but united by our desire to make a better world for our children.
