An HRC Sticker and a Mistaken Identity

HRCHere’s a funny story about an HRC sticker and a case of mistaken identity.

My spouse Helen was in the parking lot at work, about to get into her car that has a prominent blue-and-yellow HRC sticker on the back. A co-worker she didn’t know came up to her and said, “Oh, so you’re the one with that bumper sticker.”

Helen paused, not sure if she was about to discover another LGBTQ colleague or get upbraided by a conservative one.

The woman continued, “I have a question.”

Helen slowly answered, “Yes?”

“Is it Swedish or Finnish?” the woman asked.

Cue hysterical laughter in Helen’s head.

She managed to keep outwardly calm, however, and explained to the woman that it was for a human rights organization.

My comment to Helen upon hearing the story was that she should have looked the woman right in the eye and replied, “Lebanese.”
