Mombian/Bilerico Birthday Contest Extravaganza

CupcakeBil Browning, founder of The Bilerico Project, was kind enough to suggest we celebrate our respective blogs’ birthdays with a little cross-promotion. Bil and his partner Jerame have built their site into one of the most active and diverse LGBT communities online in only a year, all while raising a teenager and two dogs (as you can see here). It’s a pleasure to work with him.

Mombian turns three this year, almost as amazing as my son turning five. Many thanks to all of you who have taken time to read, comment, link, send me e-mail, and share the site with friends.

Here’s how the contest works: I’m offering a prize—two books and a CD—to the first person who leaves a comment with the correct answer to the question below. (Please note rules and restrictions at end of post.) The answer, however, is over at Bilerico. Bil is likewise offering a prize to his readers, with the answer here at Mombian.

What was one of the rejected names for the Bilerico Project?

The winner will receive:

  • The Daddy MachineA copy of Johnny Valentine’s book The Daddy Machine, about a boy and a girl with two moms who build a machine to create a dad—but forget to install an off switch. The kids never want to replace one of their moms with a dad, however; they want the dad as an addition. It’s a funny, rhyming tale that might help families whose kids begin to ask about a non-present father.
  • A CD of the musical based on The Daddy Machine, performed by San Diego’s Diversionary Theatre. (Read more about it in my earlier post.)
  • Choose to LoveA signed copy of Choose To Love: A Poem About Life, Love & Choices, by C. Kevin Wanzer (courtesy of Bil). We don’t choose our skin color, our family, whether we were born a woman or a man, or with whom we fall in love, Wanzer says. We can, however, choose to love or hate. It’s a very positive message; be aware, however, that Wanzer does say our unchosen attributes are “all part of God’s great plan.” This may commend the book to some of you, but if you’re an atheist, you may want to give it to a friend.

Rules and restrictions: U.S. and Canada residents only, please. Don’t worry if your comment is moderated; once I approve it, it will appear based on the time you submitted it. Previous winners of Mombian contests cannot win again (though you can submit an answer just to see if you got it right). I retain the right to cancel the giveaway if there are any nasty debates about who has the correct answers. If you are or have been a paying advertiser on Mombian, you can’t play.

Make sure to leave a valid e-mail address when you submit your comment! (Don’t leave a postal address, though. If you win, I’ll contact you by e-mail about shipping.)

  1. Well, the rules don’t restrict me, but I probably shouldn’t enter anyway. I came up with most of the list of rejected names, including some funny ones. I so wish I kept that email.

  2. “Big Gay Boatride”! Love it.

(I’m putting in my entry and crossing my fingers since CMB didn’t leave an email address.)

  3. Although now I see the hyperlink is activated by web address and not email, so I just made a fool of myself. Ah, well. All in a day’s work. I think the notion of winning books must have made me lose all rational thought.

  4. Our winner doesn’t want the children’s book – only the CD and Chemistry.com membership we offered. Would your 2nd or 3rd place winner be interested in the autographed copy of Choose to Love? I’d be happy to shoot it to either Dana or directly to the (other) winner. :)
