  • In New York, the ACLU filed arguments with the state’s highest court for the second of four potential right-to-marry cases. (I’ll add that given the number of people who commute from New York to New Jersey and vice versa, it will be an administrative nightmare if one state legalizes same-sex marriage and the other doesn’t. I have to imagine a scenario like that would keep the HR IT folks hard at work.)
  • Wisconsin will place a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage on its November ballot. According to PlanetOut, the wording of the amendment is such that it could be used to block even domestic partner benefits.
  • The Utah legislature passed a bill that, if enacted, will prohibit courts from granting caretaking rights to non-biological parents.
  • On a positive note, a Virginia senate committee killed a bill that would have allowed schools to deny use of their facilities to groups they believe encourage promiscuity. Some thought the bill could have been used to block gay-straight alliance groups.
