No Name-Calling Week

The Gay Dad’s Story Behind No Name-Calling Week

In addition to being Martin Luther King Jr. Day, today marks the beginning of GLSEN’s annual No Name-Calling Week, when schools across the country will be having activities and events to encourage kindness and end name-calling and bullying. Did you know the event was started because of a book written by a gay dad?

Remembering Newtown, Moving Forward

Today marks the sixth anniversary of the deadly shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, that left 20 children and seven adults (including the shooter) dead. Are we making progress towards ensuring this never happens again?

GLSEN National School Climate Survey 2017

New LGBTQ School Climate Survey Shows Worrying Trends

LGBTQ Back-to-School Resources 2018

LGBTQ Back-to-School Resources: 2018 Edition

It’s that time of year again! Here’s my annual collection of back-to-school resources for LGBTQ parents, parents of LGBTQ children, and educators, enlarged and improved for 2018! I hope it remains useful, whether your children are just entering school, starting a new school, or encountering new situations in their educational journeys.

Soccer Star and Lesbian Mom Abby Wambach Gives Us Some Advice

Abby Wambach, two-time Olympic soccer gold medalist and FIFA World Player of the Year (2012), who is also lesbian and (since her 2017 marriage to author Glennon Doyle Melton) a mom, gave the commencement speech at Barnard College earlier this month. It’s well worth watching for her advice and inspiration on life, career, community, and leadership.

New Program Launches for Military Families with LGBT Children

A new program from the American Military Partner Association (AMPA) aims to serve U.S. military families with LGBTQ children. The news comes just weeks after the Department of Defense launched an online professional development course for staff at military-affiliated childcare centers and youth programs on how to create safe, inclusive spaces for gender-expansive and LGBTQ children.
