Stories of Those with LGBTQ Parents Around the World

speech_bubbleCheck out these great stories—written and audio—of people from around the world who grew up with LGBTQ parents.

  • At the Toronto Globe and Mail, Kalia Douglas-Micallef writes of the teasing and rejection she faced at school because teachers and students were not understanding of the fact that she had two moms.
  • Australia’s Gay News Network spoke with award-winning director Dean Bryant about his new show, Gaybies, drawn from the real stories of adults with same-sex parents. (Not to be confused with Growing Up Gayby, a documentary on the same topic that premiered in 2013 on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).)
  • The U.K.’s Gay Star News reposted highlights from an online forum in which an Irish man with two moms answered questions about his family.
  • In the U.S., public radio station KRCC did a recent segment on “a small community of kids who grew up in Colorado Springs with gay parents.” (Thanks to Abigail Garner for sharing this link on her Facebook page, where she notes that producer Noel Black was an interviewee in her book, Families Like Mine: Children of Gay Parents Tell It Like It Is.)

(I’d be delighted to add stories from outside the English-speaking world, too. Leave a comment if you know of any!)
