Keeping the Pride Month festivities rolling, GLAAD and Instagram just launched #PridePortraits, a new photo campaign that encourages people to post photos of what LGBT pride means to them. GLAAD is also offering Instagram users a chance to win behind-the-scenes access to NYC Pride, including exclusive access to the Dance on the Pier this coming Sunday, featuring a performance by Demi Lovato.

(I still can’t help but think of Ms. Lovato as having mostly tween appeal, based on her start with the Disney Channel. Fact is, though, she’s 21 now, and thus qualified to play 21-and-over venues like Dance on the Pier. Kids these days grow so fast.)

To participate in the photo campaign, just post a photo to Instagram with the hashtag #PridePortraits. To enter for a chance to win the NYC Pride access (NY tri-state residents only), visit the GLAAD site and click the “Enter Now” link.

GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis, who has two kids with her spouse, musician Kristen Henderson, said, “Images of loving LGBT families are at the heart of support for equality. Social media is an especially powerful driving force for sharing stories, particularly those that change hearts and minds. As we mark the 45th anniversary of the historic Stonewall riots, GLAAD is thrilled to join Instagram in bringing #PridePortraits to millions of users across the globe as we unite to celebrate LGBT Pride.”

GLAAD isn’t just encouraging people to use social media, though — they’re getting the social media company on board, too. Instagram Community Manager Dan Toffey explained, “Instagram is a place for people to share beautiful and powerful moments, that is why we are thrilled to support GLAAD on some great projects for LGBT Pride this year.”

And NYC Pride Media Director Tish Flynn added, “The 2014 NYC Pride theme of We Have Won When We’re One rings true with #PridePortraits, which reflects the unity of the LGBT community and its allies. Whether you are sharing these experiences with us in the heart of New York City or showing your pride on Instagram, together we are sending the message that love is louder than hate.”
