Happy New Year 2014!

2014New Year’s Day always reminds me of my son’s first year, when we dressed him up in a “Happy New Year” sash and a diaper to be Baby New Year at my in-laws’ party. I won’t post pictures, since his now-10-year-old self would never forgive me — but I do smile at the memory. Time flies, which means we must be having fun, right?

This coming year will be one of change for our family, as our son finishes elementary school and starts middle school in the fall. That seems far away right now, but I’m sure it will be upon us before we know it. If I have any New Year’s resolution, it is to make sure to enjoy the moments, not to get so caught up in the busyness of my job, and getting dinner ready, and cleaning the house, and making sure my son does his homework and piano practice that I forget why I’m doing all of it in the first place. Someone far wiser than I once said about parenting, “The days are long, but the years are short.” I can’t deny that — but I can try to savor each of the times of joy on those days.

Here’s to a 2014 full of happiness and love for all of us!
