Will We Gain Marriage Equality Today?

Today’s the day. Really. No more waiting. At 10 a.m., the U.S. Supreme Court will announce its remaining decisions for the session, including ones in the two marriage equality cases under consideration.

I have absolutely no good guess about the result—but the New Yorker has a great interactive graphic that lets you see the possible outcomes by clicking on combinations of two possible rulings in the DOMA case and four possible rulings in the Prop 8 case. (Yes, it’s that complicated.)

Cross your fingers, say a prayer, hug your kids. Whatever works for you.

In the meantime, a little inspiration and historical reminder from my home state of Massachusetts. It hangs in Cambridge City Hall.

  1. You are so lucky to live in Massachusetts. Marriage equality could very well become a reality for you today, and I hope that it does. Here in Montana, just months ago our state legislature finally removed the language making gay relationships a criminal felony in our state. For our family, marriage equality may be very far off.
