Welcome, New York Magazine Visitors!

(I’m the short redhead. That’s my spouse Helen on the right, carrying our son. He’s grown a bit since then, but he’s just as cute.)

A big welcome to any and all of you visiting from the New York magazine site, where Senior Editor Charlotte Cowles interviewed me about this blog and my perspective on being a lesbian mom.

I hope you’ll have a look around, come back often, and leave (respectful) comments to share your thoughts and experiences. Please also “Like” Mombian on Facebook and follow me on Twitter, if that’s how you roll.

Among the things you’ll find here are reviews of LGBT-inclusive children’s books, political and legal commentary through a lesbian mom’s lens, parenting resources and tips, a look at the latest academic research about LGBT families, and regular roundups of LGBT parenting news from around the Web.

I also hope you’ll mark your calendars to come back on Monday, June 3, for the 8th Annual Blogging for LGBT Families Day, a blog carnival I created in 2006. Over the years, hundreds of bloggers (LGBT and not) have contributed posts in support of LGBT families. Simply post on your own blog on that date (or upload your video to YouTube or other video-sharing site), then visit Mombian to submit the link and be added to the master list for all to see. (I’ll post further details and banners in a few weeks; this is a bonus preview announcement.)
