Lesbian Moms and Daughters Confront Homophobic Mayor

Lesbian moms Amy and Tina and their two daughters stood up at a meeting of the Troy, Michigan City Council, and addressed Mayor Janice Daniels about her homophobic Facebook comments in as classy a manner as I’ve ever seen. “We wanted to show up today to give you just a look at our family,” Amy said. Definitely worth a viewing.

This also ties in with our earlier discussion here about how young is too young to involve kids in political actions. In the video, Amy shares two drawings that her children made for Daniels. As I interpret matters, speaking at the meeting was the moms’ idea, but the children also wanted to do something to stand up for their family. That’s not “using” them as political props; it’s allowing them to stand up to name-calling—and in this case, showing that it can be done in a simple, peaceful, and effective manner. Brava.
