Our story should be called, In the Nick of Time. And if our son was named Nick that'd be an even cooler story. But his name is Kai. Kai William and he is 9 months old. We found out about him about 9 months and 3 weeks ago. We were on the foster-to-adopt list for nearly 3 years with no luck. We were open to any age up to about 10 and any race. Our homestudy was submitted for literally hundreds of children all over the states to no avail. In March 09 we told our caseworker that in Sept 09 we were going to discontinue our search. It was too heartbreaking to wait and we wanted to just move on with our childless lives. On August 5, 2009, we received an email from our worker asking if we were interested in the Private Infant Adoption program. We laughed because truly if we hadn't been chosen for an older special needs child, why on earth would we be chosen for a newborn? Besides that we were trying to avoid the higher end costs of adoption by going the foster-to-adopt route. But we were curious, desperate and thought what the hell. We submitted our application the next day and the following day, August 7, 2009, we were contacted by our worker. She said a mother and father had chosen us to adopt their unborn child due in about 3 weeks!! Words will never be able to describe how we felt. Even writing this I feel my heart hammering in my chest at the memory. Fast forward to the present. We have a gorgeous blonde-haired, blue-eyed son that we still look at to this day in absolute amazement. He is the light of our lives and we are so grateful everyday for this priceless addition to our little family.

If you don't have a blog, you can leave your story as a comment. Best to wait until June 1, though, and then leave it as a comment on the master post I'll put up for the event. Thanks for participating!
