Thank you SO MUCH, Dana, for bringing Haley's post to wider attention.

I want to second (and third, and fourth!) your words of appreciation for Haley's open process. I have been extremely honored by her thoughtful attentiveness (and very grateful for her own words about her own life; she's a great writer).

We've corresponded offline some, too, and I am very proud to say that it seems a mutual admiration society is in the process of being founded. I can't say strongly enough, sincerely enough, how much this next part of our process must be guided by patience and open-heartedness, in both directions. LGBT families who wish to gain more security and respect and understanding, and others whose belief systems heretofore have had little or no space for that, will only find some space for coexistence by listening carefully.

I am amazed at Haley's willingness to do so, and I am honored by the challenge to do the same for her.

I'd go on further here, but I'd be late to pick up my girlie from preschool. Which, if it's not a sin, exactly, surely is something broadly frowned upon! ;)

Dana --
I am, frankly, floored and deeply honored by your kind words about my post. It was a challenging one to write, but also very rewarding. Beyond the "outrage," my larger concern was that my honesty or choice of words might offend. I am relieved to say that those I may have offended have been kind enough not to let me know.

I also neglected to mention that my second sincerest hope is that at some point the dialog might actually turn into friendships among a community of mothers--not just gays and straights on one side of the barbs or another. That seems entirely possible.
Bless you,
Haley
