Gay Dads Get a Lift at IKEA

One more reason I love IKEA. Actual photo from the IKEA in Stoughton, Mass.

(And yes, there was another elevator next to it with a “man” and a “woman” and a child—or a butch and a femme, depending on your perspective. One of the figures was in a dress. Interpret it as you will. That seemed less extraordinary, however, and since my son was dragging me away for meatballs, I didn’t grab a photo.)

  1. Meatballs are an extremely important part of an Ikea visit so I empathise. Excellent photo. Will be showing it to my family. I always get annoyed at the icons used to distinguish men from women. Men are people and women have triangle bottoms sometimes with some sort of antenna. It makes me want to go into the men’s loo just to make a point that I don’t look like that.

  3. Love the photo – you’re right, another reason to love IKEA – although, I wonder if it was a form of segregation, like guy dads couldn’t use the elevator with the dress??? *Please note the joking nature of that comment*

  4. I’ve been meaning to go to IKEA since it first opened; now I have a great excuse (other than to spend more money! The Swedish are so progressive. Thanks for sharing.
