Dana, I look forward to hearing about how your son's transition to kindergarten went! (My apologies if you covered this in your video, but I can never get the videos to work on my computer.)

My son started middle school this year, and we got one really positive surprise. The kids were given a packet of forms such as emergency contact info, and the teacher said to bring them home and "fill them out with your Mom and Dad or your Mom and Mom." My son's previous school records did not have any mention of my partner (though this year's will) so I know the Mom-and-Mom comment wasn't directed specifically at my son. I'm eager to find out if the teacher was simply being inclusive, or if -- for the first time -- there's another set of same-sex parents in my son's class and grade!

Thanks, Polly! I've added this to Favorite Posts per your suggestion. Glad to see we're choosing some of the same resources (but with some individual variations and commentaries)--clearly this means they're useful to many!

Thank you for this! Ever thorough! I just put up something on this topic (a more modest undertaking, part II in the works, with some of the selfsame links, as serendipity would have it). For part I, looked for your last year's piece to no avail (could it have been the tugging at the arm, I wonder, of tiny but persistent hands?). So thank you for pulling together the '08 version!

All of these are wonderful resources. Great to have them in one fell swoop. I hereby nominate this for your Favorite Posts section!
