Spring has Sprung! At least, here in NYC it has. And if you happen to be looking for seasonally appropriate songs, here you go!

“Larry’s a Sunflower Now” (Peter Himmelman, My Best Friend Is a Salamander) “Larry’s a Sunflower Now” is a quirky tune about a boy who plants himself in the backyard and turns into a sunflower. As Larry’s mom and pals worry about their floral friend, Larry continually reassures them that he’s happy soaking up the sun and being close to the earth—leaving listeners with an excellent message about personal happiness and non-conformity.

“I Love to Talk to Plants” (Marla Lewis, I Love to Talk to Plants) Marla claims that plants are GREAT at conversation. We’ve never experienced it ourselves, but maybe we’re not asking them the right questions. The National Parenting Center gave this CD its Seal of Approval; but more importantly Marla’s music has been test-driven by real kids in classrooms in the Bronx who have given their seal of approval—and we know how high their standards are!

April showers bring May . . . skateboards?

Snowdance“Waiting for it to Grow” (Erin Lee & Marci, Snowdance) is a song about some unusual gardening activity. The idea for this song was suggested to us by a young fan at a spring concert who had grown tired of songs about planting carrots and cabbages and wanted to plant a skateboard tree. The names of the kids in the song are all names of children in the audience the day the song was created.

Sing this song to your plants!
