I agree with all of your points - isn't it odd that marketers miss the "small stuff" like imagery that has such an outsize impact on our perceptions? To us, it's an obvious omission, but to them it's often an oversight. We dealt with related issues in helping a client (Muses Legal Products) promote a software suite that allows LGBT and straight couples to create legal documents to protect their relationships. We had a tough time communicating the importance of some of these issues - even to people in our own community. Reading your post makes me think we still have to make a lot more progress in that regard. For now, instead of "just" looking for LGBT-savvy accountants, maybe we should also consider savvy, LGBT accountants! Hi Dana.
