In a similar vein, it's going to be interesting if a couple from the UK comes over and asks some U.S. jurisdiction to recognize their child's birth certificate, with both moms on it. They'll be OK in some places, but what about, say, Florida? My understanding (and I'm not a lawyer) is that states don't have to recognize birth certs, though they do have to recognize adoption papers or court orders. Absolutely. Now she's stuck doing an absentee divorce. This is something that absolutely needs to be recognized. It's not even about some political advance, it's about being trapped in a legal loophole.
