In a similar vein, it&#039;s going to be interesting if a couple from the UK comes over and asks some U.S. jurisdiction to recognize their child&#039;s birth certificate, with both moms on it. They&#039;ll be OK in some places, but what about, say, Florida? My understanding (and I&#039;m not a lawyer) is that states don&#039;t have to recognize birth certs, though they do have to recognize adoption papers or court orders.</description>

		<description>I have a friend who is stuck with the out of state marriage thing--her wife hightailed it back to the states from Canada and then thumbed her nose at the marriage being real. Now she&#039;s stuck doing an absentee divorce.

This is something that absolutely needs to be recognized. It&#039;s not even about some political advance, it&#039;s about being trapped in a legal loophole.</description>
