Help Family Pride Meet Kevin Bacon’s Challenge
The Family Pride Coalition, the national non-profit working to secure equality for all families, has taken on a challenge from actor Kevin Bacon. Bacon’s Six Degrees organization (in conjunction with Network for Good) will give a matching grant of $10,000 to the six non-profits with the highest number of unique donors before March 31st at 11:59pm ET. The contest is all about the number of donors, so donations of $10 or even $5 will help. (Multiple donations from a single individual to the same Six Degrees Charity or link will only be counted once.) You can donate through the image in this post or the link in my right-hand sidebar. If you have your own site or blog, put a badge on your own site and encourage your readers to participate.
As of this writing, Family Pride is a contender for first place in the competition, and is aiming for 1,138 donations, “Because that’s the number of federal laws and provisions that guarantee rights and privileges for married couples. Because that’s the number of federal laws and provisions that exclude our families.”
In addition to being national advocates for LGBT families, Family Pride also works at the local level to build community and help our families be visible. For more about Family Pride and what they do, read my interview with their Executive Director Jennifer Chrisler.
