[...] At least two conservative writers, Glenn Sacks of the American Chronicle and Jennifer Roback Morse of Town Hall, have interpreted Breathed as being anti-dad and saying that all fathers are bad role models. Sacks links the cartoon to two books by feminist academics, Rosanna Hertz’s Single by Chance, Mothers by Choice (which I reviewed here) and Peggy Drexler’s Raising Boys Without Men (which I reviewed here; didn’t like her methodology, but admired her intent). He sees all three as sending the message “that kids don’t need fathers, that moms are better than dads, and that having two moms is better than having a mom and a dad.” Despite this, he claims to “support the rights of gays and lesbians to live their lives as they choose.” [...]

My grandmother was 14 years old, in 1914, when she became pregnant with my dear mother. I have no details about the man who biologically fathered my mom and neither did she. Grandma Mable had a choice, at 14, to end her life....end her pregnancy or continue to live and give birth to her baby. Her choice, to give birth to my mother in Feb. 1915 is the one and only reason that I, my sister, our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are alive and exist.....today. That is the 'Truth About Mom' and all the moms' on earth. We have made the choice, for life and birth, with or without a legal, marriage mate......since the beginning of all the human births on this planet earth. When will we be able to admit that every 'mother' is the true creator of the human species? Has any son of a mother, law-maker, deity/god/goddess given birth or life to any human offspring? Mothers' are the only possessors of the human eggs of human life. The earth is populated with our creations from our own choices and our own bodies. That's 'The Truth About Mom' and the truth about life on earth! Gramma Pat Bauderer

The Truth about mom, and motherhood, is that all mothers' have made the choice to remain pregnant and to birth their offspring........with or without a marriage contract. That has been the 'normal' response to the emotional, mental and physical event of discovery that one is going to bear a child. In the early 1900s' the social and religious pressures to be married were 'crushing' to an unmarried, pregnant girl. My maternal grandmother chose to remain pregnant, give birth to my mother and to raise her without a 'father figure'. Because of my grandmothers' choice......I AM! Because of that choice the lives of my sister and I, all our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren exist today. We are the only mammals who continue to deny that we are the true 'creators of life' of our human species. Not one law-maker, not one son of a mother, not one deity/god or goddess has ever created the life of a single human being. That's 'The Truth About Mom from all moms' on this earth.

[...] Mombian: Book Review of Single By Chance, Mothers By Choice The American family has changed and is changing; we have a choice of either adapting to a changing reality, or fruitlessly trying to mau-mau everyone back into the 1950s. This book, which sounds excellent, is definitely taking the former approach. [...]
