Clergy and lay delegates in the Episcopalian House of Deputies today rejected a proposed ban on LGBT bishops that was being urged by other churches in the worldwide Anglican Communion. This will likely kill the measure, at least for this year’s General Convention.
The Episcopalians’ newly elected Presiding Bishop, Katharine Jefferts Schori, said yesterday she believed homosexuality was not a sin, and that “Some people come into this world with affections ordered toward other people of the same gender and some people come into this world with affections directed at people of the other gender.”
I’m not Episcopalian myself, but give them kudos for moving in a welcoming direction, even at the risk of dissention in their ranks.
